About us
Amicus was founded by violinist Carolyn Lam and cellist Rebecca Harris in 1996. Since that time, it has established a reputation for excellence in presentation, performance and customer relations, and is now one of Adelaide's busiest performing ensembles.
In addition to providing music for special occasions and private functions, Amicus also performs regularly in concert with repertoire ranging from Bach and Mozart to contemporary composers such as Philip Glass and Karl Jenkins.
Amicus has performed for Recitals Australia, the ACME New Music Company, undertaken a master class with the internationally acclaimed Brodsky Quartet, and was quartet in residence for Symphony Australia's 1998 Westfield Young Conductor of the Year programme.
In 2001, Amicus was engaged by the State Opera of South Australia to workshop the new opera "On The Beach" by leading Australian composer Graeme Koehne. Subsequent concerts have included engagements with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, Recitals Australia and two concerts in the Mawson Lakes Planetarium, the latter involving memorised performance in total darkness.
In 2004, Amicus featured in the wedding episode of the premier Australian TV drama series "McLeod's Daughters", the episode being aired in October 2004.
Amicus' service to the bridal industry has been recognised by winning the Ceremony Music category of the Australian Bridal Industry Awards for Excellence in 2004. They were a finalist in the Ceremony Music and Live Entertainment categories in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
In 2006 Amicus gave concerts in Adelaide, in addition to performing at weddings and corporate functions.
